What Body Type Are You?

You’ve probably looked at workout magazine covers with half naked, beautiful and muscled people and wondered to yourself: how do I get that kind of body?

These same magazines are usually full of promises and advertisement of supplements that are supposed to give you that much coveted body. But is it possible for everyone to achieve those kinds of results?

I don’t need to tell you that pictures can lie. With a few brush strokes, the little extra fat on a model’s body can be melted away. Of course, there’s no denying that many have incredible bodies to begin with.

There is, however, a genetic component that allows them to have such coveted physiques. The possess body types that allow them, with proper exercise (and sometimes a little cheating) to achieve that look.

What are the different body types, and how can they affect your goals? Well, for starters, there are three main body types, and every human being is a variation of these three. They include (1) ectomorph,(2) mesomorph, and (3) endomorph.

1. Ectomorph Body Type

An ectomorph is the a person who is usually extremely slim. They have long arms and legs. Typically their shoulder width is narrow, and they have very little fat reserves. These are the people that can eat without generally gaining weight. With this body type, it can be extremely difficult to put on a significant amount of muscle mass, since the body has a limited amount of muscle fibers to begin with.

2. Mesomorph Body Type

Mesomorph is the genetic equivalent of winning the lottery. This body type allows people to gain muscle with very little effort, and their potential for great strength is high. This body type characteristically has broad shoulders, large chest and a long torso.

3. Endomorph Body Type

Since there are always genetic lottery winners, so to are there people who get the genetic short end of the stick. Endomorphs are body types that easily pack on fat. Their musculature is soft, and they have wider hips and a lot of fat storage. These are usually the “big boned” folks who just can’t seem to lose weight very easily.

Conclusion

What’s important to understand is that people can often be a mix of these body types. Not everyone is a perfect ectomorph. There is obviously some leeway here.

With that said, however, you should realize that certain body types offer limitations on the kind of results you’ll achieve. It’s best to workout to be healthy, fit, and in shape, rather than fantasize about the perfect body that may not be in your reach.

By keeping your goals and ambitions within the scope of your body frame and type, you’ll be able to feel better about your results.
